Wednesday racing tips for Bendigo

The Group 3 Bendigo Cup is the feature event on a nine-race card at the ‘Nursery of Champions’ on Wednesday afternoon. With a ticket into the 2020 Melbourne Cup up for grabs, a deep field has been assembled for the main race. The track has come up a Soft 5, but near-perfect spring conditions should see an upgrade early on. The first race on Bendigo Cup Day is set to jump at 12:30pm AEDT.

Best BetRace 5 – Far Enough (#2) $3.80 with Sportsbet

There is a heap of value to be found on this high-quality card, and we feel Far Enough is one with plenty of potential. The Dale Short-trained gelding was thoroughly impressive on debut despite racing greenly throughout and will only benefit from that run. He was strong to the line after taking the lead at the 150m mark and looked to have plenty left in the tank as he accounted for a handy maiden with ease. Damien Oliver retains the ride and will look to get an economical run in transit from barrier four. The extra 300m should be no issue.

Next BestRace 9 – Campese (#12) $4 with Sportsbet

Archie Alexander was of the opinion that his 4YO gelding needed the run first up at Bendigo three weeks ago, but he was quite impressive when railing like a greyhound in the home straight to score convincingly on a Soft 7 track. He gets Damian Lane on board and maps to settle midfield from barrier seven. If he can get some luck entering the home straight, Campese looks incredibly hard to hold out in the last race on Bendigo Cup Day.

Best ValueRace 6 – Shadow Goddess (#8) $10 with Sportsbet

The formidable duo of Patrick Payne and Billy Egan combine in the opening leg of the quaddie with a lightly raced 5YO gelding who has made a handy start to his career. His last-start win at Benalla on rain-affected ground showed he should handle the step up in class, and getting back onto dry ground will only benefit him. He’ll settle towards the back of the field, but he has a strong turn of foot and can motor down the outside late.
