2020 Bendigo Cup betting preview

Wednesday’s feature race in Australia is the Group 3 2400m Bendigo Cup. With a start in next Tuesday’s Melbourne Cup still a possibility, horses like Haky, Zebrowski and Pondus will be hoping for a penalty to elevate them in the order of entry for the great race. Pondus has favouritism ahead of Zebrowski and Saracen Knight, while Inverloch looks the leader on paper.

Best BetMasaff (#12) $13 with Sportsbet

Michael Walker heads to Bendigo on Wednesday for just the one ride, which looks a good guide. Masaff has promised a bit since coming to Australia and joining the Chris Waller stable, and we expect to see him improve here fifth up. Barrier 16 is a slight query as he often gets back in his runs, so we just hope he isn’t too far away upon straightening. He was luckless last start when wide but still hit the line well, so we are keen to bet each way at the double-figure quote.

Next BestPondus (#5) $4.20 with Sportsbet

The scratching of Lord Belvedere leaves Pondus as the top fancy in the Bendigo Cup betting market. Joseph O’Brien trains the five-year-old gelding and will be hoping to gain a late entry into the Melbourne Cup with the son of Sea The Moon. His last start saw him beaten a long way in the Ebor at York, but he does hold good form around Queen Elizabeth winner Addeybb and a 5L victory over the now-Australian trained Aktau. If he has acclimatised well, he can give this a good shake.
