Ben Currie to continue winning run

Toowoomba mare With A Promise is primed to maintain her unbeaten second-up record at the Sunshine Coast continue a great start to the new season for her trainer Ben Currie.

Currie had a treble at Ipswich on Wednesday to take him to 24 overall wins for the season.

He is building up some strong connections with major owners as two of his Ipswich winners, Now You See and Break Time, are raced by Victory Thoroughbreds and the third Hang is owned by Kim McCasker..

With A Promise, who is raced by the state’s biggest owner Mick Crooks, was a find of the winter carnival winning the Listed Silk Stocking at the Gold Coast and feature three year old races at Ipswich and Doomben.

The mare returned to racing at Doomben two weeks ago when third behind Another Whiskey in an Open Handicap (1110m).

She again tackles top horses in Saturday’s Open Handicap (1200m).

Currie was thrilled with the mare’s first-up run and believes she is ready to re-enter the winners circle.

“With A Promise always takes a run to get going in her campaigns. She has had three second-up runs and won the lot,” Currie said.

“She was second-up when she won the Silk Stocking. It was why I was surprised she started $81 dollars that day as her second-up form was so good and she has a good win strike rate at 1200 metres.”
