Belmont Guineas betting tips – Saturday, 20 June 2020

Laverrod racing news
Can promising 3yo Laverrod reverse the form with Kay Cee in Saturday’s Belmont Guineas?

We are racing at Belmont again for the fifth Saturday in a row and are graced with another Listed Race for the 3yo middle-distance horses, the 1600m Waroa-Belmont Guineas. Two of Western Australia’s top 3yo prospects, Laverrod and Kay Cee, will face off again after only a nose separated the pair in the Raconteur Stakes a fortnight ago. The latter got the better that time and has been posted as the odds-on favourite. Captain Kink and Laverrod look to be the likely leaders from gates three and four respectively. The track is currently a Soft 7 with the rail in the true position.

Best Bet
Laverrod @ $3.10 Sportsbet

Nothing split the pair two weeks ago and we found it hard to split them again here. On that occasion, Laverrod was sent around as the even-money favourite, shading Kay Cee slightly, but the odds are reversed this time around. We are going to side with Laverrod again as his $3 quote appeals more. He led the field last start over the 1400m and fought gamely to only be beaten in a head-bobber. This will be the gelding’s first go at the mile, which is a concern, but if he can be ridden with cover, there is no doubt in our minds that he will see out the trip. Patrick Carberry should let Jade McNaught go on Captain Kirk, slot in behind the leader and present at the top of the straight. Not overly confident, but if you’re having a bet, the $3 appeals more considering how close they were last time.

Next Best
Kay Cee @ $1.60

No denying that Kay Cee is a clear danger and very deserving short-priced favourite after a solid win first up. She got back towards the tail, circled the field and chased hard to get there when it counted. She ended her last preparation as a Group 1 winner over 1800m, so the 1600m second up should be right up her alley. Steven Parnham will have to go back from barrier six in the field of seven, so the filly could be just too far away if they don’t go hard. She meets Laverrod 3kg better off at the weights, which cannot be overlooked. A deserving favourite and clear winning chance.

Best Value
Karijini Aurora @ $8.50 Sportsbet

We cannot see anything troubling the top two in the market with their superior form. Karijini Aurora placed third in the Raconteur Stakes and is the only other horse in single figures. The Trade Fair filly is a winner of three from five, including a win at 1600m, and is reunited with William Pike, who is two from two on her. From barrier seven, Pike will slide up, settle midfield and present the filly down the centre of the track. At one point in her last start, she looked the winner but seemed to peak on the run, so she should improve second up. Definitely the one to include in trifectas and first fours.
