Ballarat racing tips & quaddie picks – Wednesday, 20 May 2020
Victorian thoroughbred racing heads west this week for an eight-race card at Ballarat on Wednesday. It’ll be the first time racing there since May 10, so the rail will go back into the true position for the entire circumference of the track. The turf will be in the Soft range, with the first race set to jump at 12:25pm AEST.
Wednesday racing tips for Ballarat
Mick Price and Michael Kent Jr join forces with leading jockey Damien Oliver as Cabinho goes around in Race 2. The pair are striking at 20% in the past 12 months and look set to continue their winning ways here. Coming off a very good first-up run at 1200m, the 3yo by Atlante will go very close in this with the rise to 1400m. Last start on a Heavy 8 track at Echuca, he went via the grandstand before finishing strongly into second with a margin of nearly three lengths back to third. From barrier four, he should get the run of the race and prove too strong for his rivals.
We are keen on Archie Alexander’s filly to break through for her maiden win at start number five here. She hit the line strongly in her last start and looks ready to win now that she finally gets out to 1600m. She has placed once on both a Soft and a Heavy track, with the latter being at Ballarat. The booking of senior ride Declan Bates suggests she is ready to win and will look to get a run to suit from barrier three. The $5.50 looks a great price for Rue Grande in a race like this.
Quality Approach has been racing well of late and looks suited here with a solid Soft track record (5:2-1-0). From barrier 10, Jarrod Fry should push forward and take a sit just on the heels of the leading pair. The 4yo gelding boxed on gamely last start at Warrnambool over the carnival and should be suited for the slight weight relief and extra journey to 2000m. Mitch Freedman should have him ready for this assignment, and he presents as a great each-way chance.
