Ballarat form and quaddie tips for Thursday, October 12

Ballarat Thursday Quaddie

PLENTY of eyes will be on Ballarat this Thursday as the country Victorian track hosts the inaugural running of Sportsbet’s The Hotham, but the quaddie kicks off the very next race which were all over.

There are some quality runners taking to the field in the final four races on the nine event card and given the form the HorseBetting.com.au team has been in lately, a winning dividend is a likely result.

Come for the Hotham, stay for the quaddie.

All tips this week were provided by Australia’s newest online bookmaker Neds, which is offering a matched first deposit bonus to new customers up to the value of $500 when they use the code GETON500.

Race six on the card is a benchmark 64 event over the 1400m trip, which kicks off the quaddie at 3.30 pm.

Arties Dreamwinner is coming into the race off the back of a benchmark 64 win at Ballarat a fortnight ago and we expect the horse to run a similar style of race on Thursday. Barrier nine will not matter too much given there is not a lot of speed on the inside so it should be slotting in nicely.

Matt Laurie runner Mandalay Bay will test out the mile for the third time in its career, and while it has never placed at 1600, we think it may be the optimal distance for the horse. The four-year-old only narrowly missed out at Flemington on September 27 and we are anticipating a similarly strong performance.

Benny Goes Berzerk has ran four-straight races inside the first four and we think a break-through win could be just around the corner. The Weir-trained galloper is never too far away from the mark and we believe a typically rock-solid performance here could see it picking up the winner’s cheque.

Nine Clouds is a talented runner that, while it only has one win to its name, has recorded back-to-back placings in quality fields. From barrier four it has every chance to insert itself into the race and having seen the horse run in person on its last two runs we know it is more than capable of winning.

Pop Queen was very unlucky not to win at Bendigo two weeks ago and we think the connections will learn a lot from that race. The horse has the early speed to overcome the wide draw, and having won once and placed a further time at the distance we think a big run is in the offing.

Barry The Bapist came out of the same race as Pop Queen and while it did not finish in the placings, it was still less than half a length off the eventual winner. After racing at the 1200m trip and the mile, the drop back to 1400m might be the optimal distance for the four-year-old which will look to utilise its quality gate speed from barrier three.

Ubin Thunderstruck is a hit-or-miss runner that we think can strike in a big way on Thursday. Since a ninth placed finish at the end of last year the horse has either won or finished fourth across eight runs. There have been no placings, or anything outside of a fourth-placed finish. It is an extraordinary record that we think can continue with a win.

Crafty Devil is another runner that boasts a similar record. In the horse’s last four races it has won twice, but failed to finish inside the placings. The horse returns to a venue where it has won before and a distance where it has won 50 percent of its starts. Bodes well for a big run.

Zilbiyr has returned in great order this preparation, winning and placing third from three attempts. The horse has won at this rating before and while it has yet to win at the course or distance, there is no reason to think either of those issues will hold the horse back Thursday.

Theycallmethehoff won well at Echuca at the beginning of the month and there’s no reason to think that form will not hold out on Thursday. Winning or placing across six races over ten attempts also points towards a solid run.

Monajet has been an afterthought in the market across its last two runs but the performances have belied those large odds. Last start in particular where the horse finished within a length of the winner was eye-catching, and while the barrier 14 draw is a concern it is likely to be taken back anyway where it will look to storm over the top of the field.

Reward With Return is in sensational form and will be hard to hold out here. Winning last time at Mildura by a head, the horse finally broke through after two back-to-back third placings. Barrier six is a big tick as it will get plenty of time to settle and if the form holds up it will be right in the mix come the post
