Attention wins the Gr 2 BRC Sires’ Produce

The decision to give Attention an easy autumn carnival has reaped a big dividend when the colt won the BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes at Doomben.

Attention ($5.50) assured himself of a start in the Group One JJ Atkins Stakes on June 11 when he proved too strong for Dreams A Plenty ($15), eventually scoring by neck in the Group Two race on Saturday.

Nikitas ($26) signalled he was back on course for another win when he was third, a long neck back.

Attention continued and outstanding year the Peter and Paul Snowden and their team of two-year-olds.

Capitalist won the Magic Millions 2YO Classic before winning the Golden Slipper.

Paul Snowden said the stable had made a decision not to overtax Attention during the autumn in Sydney.

“We were always going to give him a light autumn and then a 10-day break before coming up here,” Snowden said.

“He has really bloomed in the sunshine.”

The win was the second in the race for Peter Snowden who had Fravachi claim the 2008 edition.

It also completed a top week for jockey Blake Shinn who passed 100 winners for the season with a treble at Canterbury on Wednesday and a double at the Sunshine Coast on Friday.

Shinn is not certain to ride Attention in the JJ Atkins but will have first choice.

“We could have a few runners for the race but Blake will be in the mix,” Snowden said.

Bobby El-Issa, who was making his comeback to Brisbane after a serious illness, was convinced it should have been a winning return on Dreams A Plenty.

“The saddle slipped up his neck and he should have won,” El Issa said.
