Attention continues golden Snowden run with Sires’ Produce win

The father and son partnership of Peter and Paul Snowden scored another big win at Doomben on Saturday when two-year-old Attention won the Group 2 Sires’ Produce Stakes.

The Stratum colt followed the pattern of the day by sitting on the pace and its job was made easier when $1.80 favourite Souchez bombed the start.

Attention ($5.40 at Sportsbet) raced to the lead early in the straight and held off a strong challenge from both Dreams Aplenty and Nikitas. Souchez sustained a long run to try get itself in contention, but no runner has come from off the pace at Doomben so far.

“The pace of the race was a little bit slower and developed into a sprint home,” jockey Blake Shinn said. “We were able to dominate from the front.

“He’s an imposing horse, a great looking two-year-old.

“I’m the lucky one to pick up the ride. We got the job done, full credit to the team.”

The group 2 win continued the success of Team Snowden which has already captured the Magic Millions and Golden Slipper with Capitalist earlier this season.

“It’s been very fruitful for the stable,” co-trainer Paul Snowden said. “We thought we wouldn’t hand up the lead if we didn’t have to.

“Just put him to sleep, relaxed well and he was always going to have a good kick. He seems to settle better in his work and in his races now.

“I don’t think a mile will hurt him.”

Attention ran 1:19.09 for the 1350m and will likely run in two weeks time at Eagle Farm over the longer distance of the mile.

The jury’s out for beaten runner Souchez which didn’t have any luck in the running, but did finish close enough at the end. The run of the race came from New Zealand runner Sacred Elixir which flashed home from last on a track which has an obvious leaders’ bias.
