Race 8 – W.A. Oaks Best Bet

William Pike made his presence felt last weekend at Mornington and The Valley, winning the William Reid, Hareeba Stakes, Mornington Cup and the Mornington Guineas, and he looks set to make it another feature race clean sweep back on his home track. Linking up with Grant & Alana Williams in the famous cerise and white, Pike will partner race favourite Pure Devotion in the Group 3 staying feature. The daughter of So You Think won her maiden three starts back under Pike, before being partnered by Kyra Yuill in her next two where she placed in both the Ascot 1000 Guineas and the Listed Natasha Stakes. The extra 200m will be perfect for this filly as she looks to justify favouritism.

Best BetRace 8 – Pure Devotion (#3) $2.05 with Sportsbet

Race 4 -Melvista Stakes Top Tips

The key lead up into the W.A. Derby is the Listed Melvista Stakes over 2200m, and it is another short priced favourite for Pike & Team Williams. Western Empire is well and truly out of being a backable price at $1.25, but he should be winning. The Iffraaj gelding has won his past two in great style; winning the Lex Piper and the J.C. Roberts Stakes by a combined eight and a half lengths at Listed level. Barrier one will see him box seat under Pike and he should just be too good as he heads to the Derby. Check the odds at Aussie bookmakers, but there may not be enough value to take Western Empire.

Best BetRace 4 – Western Empire (#1) $1.25 with Sportsbet

Race 1 -Best Bet of the Day

Lou Luciani saddles up her four-year-old Marocchino in a 2200m Rating 72+ where he should be ultracompetitive. The son of Maschino has won just the two from 20 career starts, but placed in two Listed races last winter and mixed it with the likes of Laverrod and Indian Pacific who made their names known in Melbourne over the last few weeks. He won well four starts back over a mile and put in a good effort when second last time out at 1800m. Pike will hop aboard and do the steering from barrier four, which should add a length or two in a fairly weak race like this. We can open our accounts with style here.

Best Bet Of The DayRace 1 – Marocchino (#4) $2.00 with Sportsbet
