Arrogate falters while Winx wonders in the Twitter racing wrap
THIS weekend was all about the return of two superstar horses.
In America the number one ranked horse in the world Arrogate resumed its racing career in inauspicious style, while the number two horse Winx stepped out onto Randwick for the first time since the Autumn as the wondermare’s spring preparations step up.
The reactions to both runs were vastly different, and Twitter did not let us down.
Winx returns in style at Randwick
In case you have been living under a rock for the past month, supermare Winx returned to the track this morning as Chris Waller ramps up the spring preparations.
Winx goes through her gears brilliantly, closing off her return trial in impressive fashion. Great to see the mighty mare back!#GoWinx pic.twitter.com/PG7NZnhBvB

It is a big call given its recent racing history, but one punter mused as to whether we will see an even better Winx once it returns to the competitive racing track.
I'd say that looked to be one of Winx's best trials yet. #gowinx

One Twitter user went a bit further than we would on Winx.
Not one for beastiality but if it was gonna be one it'd be #WINX she's just gorgeous #GoWinx

The horse is universally loved, but we think that may be a step too far.
Winx is one of the most popular horses in the world, and one lucky social media user could not resist the opportunity to get a photo in front of the great one.

It was a whirlwind return for Winx, and we cannot wait until the mare returns for real in a few months.
Until next time Winx… #GoWinx pic.twitter.com/a7VrxJav1G

Let’s just hope the number two rated horse in the world’s first-up run is better than the runner that supersedes it.
Arrogate loses on its return
If anyone saw this coming then you’re either a liar or currently the world’s richest person.
Horse racing: Arrogate, world's top-ranked horse, suffers shock defeat

In what some pundits described as one of the biggest upsets in thoroughbred racing history, the world’s number one ranked horse on turf Arrogate failed to even place in a small field on its competitive return.
One of the all time shock losses – Arrogate trailed in fourth of five in the San Diego Handicap won in fine style by Accelerate: pic.twitter.com/rDtjfce1AX

Some of funds bet – and lost – on Arrogate made our eyes water in the states.
#Arrogate loses $2.4 of the $2.6 million bet on him yesterday @ Del Mar . balloon prices on the board in 5-horse field as the champ clunks

The Aussies were not exempt from the pain either.
One unlucky punter that clearly had more dollars than sense will be a lot more lighter in the pocket following the shock loss.
One bet of $26,300 at $1.10 just placed on Arrogate in the San Diego Handicap at @DelMarRacing (post time 11:03am). https://t.co/kha0mWL3lS pic.twitter.com/cL1QrZJORl

It was not all bad news for the Aussies though.
There was a lot of conjecture about which runner was better, Winx and Arrogate.
One punter thinks the loss on Sunday morning Australian time settles it.
Arrogate Flops… $1.10 shocker #betterthanwinxhahahahaha ???

And they were not alone in their sentiments.
Winx is better than Arrogate. That's a fact
— Victor Yong (@BigVic_AFL) July 24, 2017
One Twitter user even thinks Arrogate could get a handicap in this year’s Cox Plate and still get torched by the star mare.
Arrogate could start where they go past the high school at Moonee Valley and he still wouldn't see which way Winx went in a Cox Plate.
— Brad Thompson (@BradThompson83) July 23, 2017
We’re not so sure, but we think it’s time Winx goes ahead of Arrogate, and Sunday’s run might settle it.
