Architect has designs on first-up victory

Iron-horse Architect has followed a familiar and successful path for his return in search of a milestone that would make his late trainer proud.

Architect will be having his 53rd start when he resumes from a break in the Bluescope Handicap at Doomben on Saturday.

The five-year-old has been a great money spinner for Sherrie Lawlor who took over the sprinter’s training last year after the death of her father David.

The gelding, who cost $24,000, has won eight races and a win on Saturday would bring him closer to $500,000 in prize money earnings.

“Dad loved Architect and he would have been thrilled if he could win $500,000. Architect has been so consistent and has raced against some of the best horse around,” she said.

Lawlor said she believed the key to Architect was keeping him on the fresh side.

“He won first-up last campaign without a trial and we have followed that path again. One thing you know he will try hard,” she said.
