Another bad barrier for Rocknavar

Trainer Matt Dunn is again ruing a wide barrier for Qld Oaks-bound Rocknavar at the Gold Coast,

Trainer Matt Dunn is so fed up with Rocknavar drawing outside barriers he seriously considered altering her path to the Queensland Oaks.

Rocknavar is back from Sydney where she was unplaced but far from disgraced in the Adrian Knox Stakes and Australian Oaks.

Dunn believes Rocknavar is yet to be given a proper chance to show her best because of bad barriers.

“She had an outside barrier is both Sydney starts so what do you do? She was forced back to last in both and really against the good horses you can’t give starts like that,” Dunn said.

“It doesn’t help that many in those races are suspect stayers so they go slow in front anyway.”

Rocknavar drops back from the 2400m of the Oaks to 1800m in the Gold Coast Bracelet on Saturday.

“This time she has drawn 17 and will probably start from 13.But hopefully they will run this at a decent pace to give Rocknavar a chance to run on,” Dunn said.

Dunn said he considered whether to trial Rocknavar on Tuesday and then run in The Roses at Doomben two weeks before the Oaks on June 1.

But at this stage she will run in the Bracelet before tackling the The Roses and Oaks.
