Anjana remains unbeaten with Valley win

Damian Lane rides Anjana to win race 1 at Moonee Valley
Damian Lane has ridden Anjana to victory in the two-year-old’s city debut at Moonee Valley.

A spring campaign aimed at the Thousand Guineas is on the radar for promising filly Anjana after she kept an unbeaten start to her career intact in impressive fashion at Moonee Valley.

The Darren Weir-trained two-year-old made her city debut on Saturday in the Dominant Homecare Products Handicap (1200m) and was sent out the $1.40 favourite after convincing wins at Wangaratta and Ballarat in her first two starts.

With Damian Lane aboard, Anjana settled just behind the speed on the rail after jumping from the inside barrier then angled into the clear at the right time turning for home.

Anjana quickly put her rivals away in the straight to win by three lengths over Goldifox ($15), with another half a length to Cosmic Ruby ($16).

“She settled beautifully and when I needed to come out she came out comfortably and she was too good,” Lane said on Saturday.

“It’s obviously off-season but she’s doing everything right. And she’s definitely got upside.”

Leigh Saville, of syndication Roll The Dice Racing, indicated Anjana would likely have a break and be aimed at the spring.

“She’ll probably have a couple of weeks off now and we might set her for the Thousand Guineas and see where she goes from there,” Saville said.

“But we’ll let (Weir) do what he does.”
