Anderson repays favour with Star Adele

Trainer Chris Anderson has repaid a life-changing favour from Glenlogan Park Stud manager Steve Morley with Star Adele’s win at the Sunshine Coast.

Star Adele ($3.40) landed some big bets when she led all the way to win Wednesday’s XXXX Gold Plate (1200m) at the Sunshine Coast.

Glenlogan Park was Queensland’s biggest stud for many years but changed direction earlier this year when it decided to swap its emphasis from sires to mares.

Star Adele, a four-year-old, is by Genlogan’s former stallion Jet Spur and is a mare the stud kept for future breeding.

She is the first horse Anderson, who is making a name for himself at Eagle Farm, has trained for the stud.

“Glenlogan is really the reason I am training,” Anderson said.

“A friend of a friend is mates with Steve Morley and when I was thinking about taking up full time training he arranged for me to talk with Steve.

“I spent some time at Glenlogan and it was after that I decided to take up training. For them to trust a horse with me is a real boost.”

Anderson has built up his team in the past two years and is set to move into the top 10 Brisbane trainers after starting the season with six winners.

“Star Adele has been given plenty of time because she was a slow maturer and had a paddock and then a float accident,” Anderson said.

Premier jockey Jeff Lloyd showed he had no intention of giving up his number one title with a Sunshine Coast treble on The Amateur ($6), Gracida ($2.30) and Can Do Campbell ($9.50).

Lloyd missed the first two weeks of the season through suspension but has ridden five winners in the week since he returned.

Can Do Campbell capped off a good five days for trainer Ben Currie as it was his seventh victory since last Friday.

“He is named after former Queensland premier Campbell Newman and the owner also sent me one named Fake News so he likes politics,” Currie said.

“Can Do Campbell has bloomed since a spell and he can win more races.”
