Aloisia ready for return at Flemington

Quality mare Aloisia will be kept to shorter distances during a spring campaign which begins at Flemington.

The Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained mare will resume in Saturday’s Blazer Stakes (1400) for fillies and mares and carry top weight of 59kg.

Aloisia was sent out odds-on favourite when sixth in last year’s VRC Oaks and also failed to fill a place in the ATC Australian Oaks at Randwick and the Queensland Oaks at Doomben.

She was placed over 2000m in The Vinery Stud Stakes at Rosehill in March.

Aloisia has been given a steady build-up for her return and was given the green light to resume after a gallop at Caulfield on Sunday.

“She’s going good,” Eustace said.

“She galloped here on Sunday morning and worked really well so we’re really happy with her.

“She’s had two trials at Cranbourne and we thought her second one was pretty sharp.

“She’s not a horse that trials that well but her work has been pretty solid.

“She’ll run well on Saturday for sure and we’re definitely going to be keeping her to shorter trips this time.”

Eustace said the Group One Myer Classic (1600m) at Flemington on November 3 was Aloisia’s spring goal.
