The Adrian Knox Stakes is a Group 3 race for three-year-old fillies, run over 2000m at Royal Randwick by the Australian Turf Club.
Originally known as the Princess Handicap when first run in 1948, it was renamed in 1987 in honour of Adrian Knox, a former AJC chairman and Chief Justice of the High Court.
The Adrian Knox Stakes was run over 7 furlongs until 1959, then a mile until 1972, and has been contested over 2000m since 1973, making it a key lead-up to the Group 1 ATC Oaks (2400m).
The Adrian Knox Stakes has held Group 3 status since 1986 and is run under quality handicap conditions, offering ballot exemption for the Oaks.
The 2025 Adrian Knox Stakes, worth $250,000, was won by Belle Detelle, defeating Polymnia and You Wahng.
Sixteen fillies have completed the Adrian Knox–Oaks double, including Light Fingers, Leilani, Royal Descent, and Colette. Other notable winners include Circles Of Gold, Wild Iris, Duais, and Arabian Gold.

How to bet on the Adrian Knox Stakes
Ordinarily a Group 3 race would be a big deal, but given the TJ Smith Stakes and the Doncaster Mile are run on day one of the Championships, the Adrian Knox Stakes takes a backseat to those races.
However, that does not mean it does not draw plenty of attention.
Given what is at stake for the winner there is always buzz around the Adrian Knox Stakes, which means fixed odds markets tend to emerge around a week before the race jumps.

2025 Adrian Knox Stakes result
1st – Belle Detelle (+500)
2nd – Polymnia (-250)
3rd – You Wahng (+190)
Recent runnings of the Adrian Knox Stakes:
- Belle Detelle stamped herself as a genuine Australian Oaks contender with a strong win in the Group 3 Adrian Knox Stakes (2000m) at Randwick. Trained by Chris Waller, the Zed filly relished the testing conditions and produced a determined finish under Damian Lane to hold off favourite Polymnia by half a length. Lane gave the filly a patient ride, settling her toward the rear before launching wide with her run. You Whang briefly hit the front at the 300m, but Belle Detelle and Polymnia swept past to fight out the finish. It was a tough effort from the winner, who now looks well-placed to step up to 2400m in the Group 1 Australian Oaks.
- Jamie Kah and Mark Zahra battled it out down the length of the Randwick straight in the Group 3 Adrian Knox Stakes, with Kah getting the better of her Victorian counterpart as Good Banter ($4.40) edged out Autumn Angel ($5.00) in the final strides of the 2000m contest. Zahra and Kah made their runs together as the field rounded the home turn and their mounts quickly ranged up to the leaders and started to kick clear from the rest of the field at the 200m mark to fight out the finish. However, with Autumn Angel giving Good Banter 8kg in weight, the smaller filly was able to get her nose in front with 50m to go and held out the tough Peter Moody & Katherine Coleman-trained filly in a driving finish, with Concello ($13.00) running home nicely into third place.
- Edward Cummings continued the Cummings family dominance in the Adrian Knox Stakes, as he won the race for the second time in three years with Arts, and made it four straight wins for the family, with his brother James winning the other two. The race favourite and James Cummings-trained Sequestered looked to have the race on her terms as she settled behind the leader and peeled of its back with 250m to go, however, Arts for Anthony Cummings exploded on the outside with a blistering turn of foot to power over the top of her and record a dominant 4.2 length victory. Arts was only at her third race start in the Group 3 Adrian Knox Stakes, after winning on debut at Kembla Grange in a maiden, before going to the Group 3 Kembla Grange Classic where she finished 12th of 12. After that performance in the Kembla Grange Classic, Arts wasn’t fancied by many, as she went around at massive odds ($26) with online bookmakers. Although Arts had never seen a Heavy track, she powered through the wet track, and she has put her name up in lights going into the Australian Oaks.
- Honeycreeper raced away from the field to claim the 2022 Group 3 Adrian Knox Stakes (2000m) at Randwick in dominant fashion under Hugh Bowman. Trained by James Cummings, the filly by Teofilo settled towards the rear of the big field after jumping from barrier 15, but she proved classes above her rivals, pulling clear to win by over three lengths. Charity Spirit from Gary Portelli and Alysha Collett made steady ground late to run second, with a further three lengths back to the fancied Mamounia. After Prophet’s Pride and Taizai led the field of 15 at a solid clip, it set the race up nicely for fillies from the back to finish the race off the better, and that is how the race played out with Honeycreeper reigning supreme.
