Adkins makes most of Godolphin chance

Andrew Adkins has put himself at the forefront of apprentices trying to make the most of off-season opportunities.

As in most years when the best jockeys head to Queensland for the winter carnival and wet tracks become the norm in Sydney racing, apprentice riders will be in high demand with leading stables.

And Adkins, indentured to Randwick trainer Ron Quinton, put himself in the frame to secure more rides for John O’Shea with a well-judged effort on Eschiele, the lesser fancied but best backed of two Godolphin runners at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.

Eschiele settled midfield on the rail but Adkins soon had the three-year-old on the scene at the turn before going on to beat Braces.

“The horse basically took me into the race and he was able to finish off best,” Adkins said.

Adkins will have two rides for Godolphin at Rosehill on Saturday – Reincarnate and Moher – among seven mounts.
