A Lotta Love set to back up at Flemington

Part of trainer Sam Pritchard Gordon’s late-season plan for stable star A Lotta Love was executed to perfection at Caulfield.

The next part comes at Flemington on Saturday.

A Lotta Love sprinted to victory over 1200m at Caulfield last Saturday and is set to back up seven days later in the $120,000 Leilani Series Final (1400m) at Flemington.

“That’s been the plan. She seems to back up well,” Pritchard-Gordon said.

“When she ran third in the Group Three Proud Miss Stakes in Adelaide (in May) she backed up in that race, and I left room for improvement from her run at Caulfield to run her over 1400 metres at Flemington where she is a course and distance winner.

“It’s been a bit of a game plan over the past couple of months and at this stage she seems to be ticking all the boxes.”

A Lotta Love has won more metropolitan races than most in Victoria this season with her fast-finishing victory at Caulfield adding to other city-class wins at Ballarat in November and Flemington in December.

The four-year-old also dead-heated for first in another metropolitan race on Mornington Cup day in early April.

Pritchard-Gordon said the mare, a $10,000 yearling, had been a star for the stable.

“She’s really come into her own,” he said.

“She’s a filly that we didn’t buy for very much as a yearling and we didn’t really ask anything of her as a two-year-old.

“She showed something as a three-year-old and has kept on improving. She keeps on showing up and I don’t think we’ve got to the bottom of her yet. I still think there’s nice improvement to come as she continues to mature.”

Pritchard-Gordon said the winner of six of her 19 starts had come through her latest win in good order.

“She’s as tough as nails and she loves what she does,” he said.

The Mornington trainer has two-year-old Bouffon nominated for the Taj Rossi Series Final on Saturday and is still weighing up whether he will run.
