Race 1 – Joe Brown Plate (1200m)
Alter Call won a good form race at Werribee last start and the well-bred type looks a natural inclusion. The Mick Price-trained filly is owned by Newgate Farm and the China Horse Club so there’s some ownership there and the insie draw with Damien Oliver in the saddle is ideal. Current easing $3.30 favourite.
Emptor is an unbeaten colt which scored by a length at Beaumont last start. The John O’Shea-trained three-year-old has been hammered in the betting at both career starts, but punters are getting a much better price of $4.80 for this.
Oak Door is a quality runner from the Robert Smerdon stables which will benefit from a light weight in this. The Commands colt was running on late behind Khaki last start and the form out of that Flemington start should hold up well. $5.50 with bookmakers.
Race 1 tip: Alter Call to win ($3.30) at Sportsbet.com.au
Race 2 – Dennis Hanrahan R78 Handicap (1800m)
Dodging Bullets hasn’t fire a shot this campaign, but it went close last start at Flemington. The Symon Wilde-trained gelding is firmly knocking on the door of a win and it has been backed in from $4.50 into $4.20 so consider.
Big Duke is the current $3 favourite following its last start placing at Sandown. The Darren Weir-trained import was a winner in Europe before arriving in Australia for Australian Bloodstock and the rise in distance for this should be ideal. It drops to a perfect weight and we’re expecting a handy effort.
Ashlee Marie is a classy type which finished second in the South Australian Classic before running in the Queensland Oaks. The Richard Laming-trained mare went close over this distance last start and it won’t have to spend a penny from the inside draw. Each way hope at $5.50.
Race 2 tip: Big Duke to win ($3) at CrownBet.com.au
Race 3 – Allan Wicks R70 Handicap (1600m)
Movie was a stylish winner at Moonee Valley last start and the penny might have dropped. The Hayes/Dabernig-trained mare is a three-time winner from 13 starts and it gets some weight relief with Dylan Dunn in the saddle. $4.20 out to $6, but consider its chances for the win.
Plein Ciel is a European import which has been far too classy for its opposition in two Australian starts. The Weir-trained son of Mamool won by over three lengths at Sandown last start and although this is harder, it should be putting in the big bounds late. $3.20 into $2.40 which is still a good price.
Balf’s Choice is a son of Written Tycoon which has been specked at each way odds of $9.50. The four-year-old finished off nicely at Flemington last start and it has place claims in this.
Race 3 tip: Plein Ciel to win ($2.40) at Bet365.com
Race 4 – Robert Allan R84 Plate (1100m)
Very Choosy is a speedy mare which has won three from seven starts. The Smerdon-trained four-year-old went close behind Lyuba last start and it should be fitter with two runs under its belt this campaign. It is bred for speed being by Choisir and it drops in weight to 55kg for this. $4.50 after opening at $4.20.
Lyuba is a professional mare for Darren Weir which has now won five from seven starts. The four-year-old is unbeaten in two starts this campaign and it has the ability to run quick times. Ben Allen retains the ride and it should prove hard to beat again at $3.50 after opening at $3.80.
Infra Dig didn’t fire last start, but its form prior was solid. The O’Shea-trained filly won well at Canterbury before finishing second behind Nieta at Rosehill. Still up in the air whether it can handle going left handed, but follow any money in the betting.
Race 4 tip: Lyuba to win ($3.50) at WilliamHill.com.au
Race 5 – Ken Sturt R84 Handicap (1400m)
Matthew Williams lines up Lady Selkirk which went close when third at Flemington last start. The four-year-old mare has great statistics at this distance and it only needs some luck from the wide barrier draw of 10. It opened at $3.10 in the betting and has firmed into $3.
Vital Importance is a nine-time winner for Henry Dwyer which finished only 1.6 lengths behind Aurum Spirit at Flemington last start. The Vital Equine mare is a three-time winner at this distance which has raced at stakes level and it has been specked into $4.80.
Gingie is an each way chance at $15 after a moderate run first up. It showed good form last campaign and it’s over the odds in this.
Race 5 tip: Lady Selkirk to win ($3) at Bet365.com
Race 6 – Ian McLeod Christmas Stakes (1200m)
Duke Of Brunswick had no luck last start at Flemington and its form on this track is good. The Mick Price-trained gelding has won twice from six starts with three placings and Oliver takes the ride. It has drifted in the betting to $3.80 after opening at $3.60 so consider in this.
Sir Bacchus has been backed in from $5.50 to $4.60 and it wasn’t too far behind them in the MSS Security Sprint last start. The Waller-trained gelding has won five from eight starts at this distance and its form prior suggests that it should be tough to beat in this.
Grande Rosso has been in good form this campaign with two wins. The five-year-old gelding won well by 1.25 lengths at Pakenham last start and it has firmed in from $9 to $7.50. Chance in this again.
Race 6 tip: Sir Bacchus to win ($4.60) at Sportsbet.com.au
Race 7 – Swettenham Stud Lord Stakes (1700m)
Kenjorwood was too strong for them last start at Flemington and it has won twice from four starts on this track. The seven-year-old is searching for its 10th career win and the bookmakers have set it as the equal favourite at $2.80. Looks a strong winning hope.
Hell Or Highwater is in great form having won its last four from five starts. The Hayes/Dabernig-trained mare has been beating some nice types and it will get a great run from the inside draw with a light weight. It opened the $2.60 favourite, but has since drifted to $2.80.
Master Of Arts is a six-time winner from 15 starts which won its only start on this track. The Weir-trained horse is stepping up in distance after running fourth behind Snoopy over 1400m last start and it should be putting in the big strides late. Chance at $7.
Race 7 tip: Hell Or Highwater to win ($2.80) at CrownBet.com.au
Race 8 – Swettenham Stud Summer Championship (1400m)
Darren Weir lines up Ozi Choice which held off race-rival Ma Deuce last start. The four-year-old won its only start on this track which bodes well and it should get every chance with Ben Allen in the saddle. $4.80 available with bookmakers.
King’s Command was a stylish winner fresh up and it wasn’t disgraced when fifth last start. It has won five from 12 starts which is a great winning record and it should be there at the finish. Bookmakers have kept it safe at $4.80 throughout the week.
Ma Deuce is the current $4 favourite after it finished close behind Ozi Choice last start. It opened at $4.40 so there has been some good support for it and it gets down to a winnable weight of 54.5kg. Consider in win bets here.
Race 8 tip: King’s Command to win ($4.80) at Palmerbet.com.au
