quaddie of the week

Quaddie tips for Thursday, December 22 races at Townsville

THURSDAY racing is set to ignite the Sunshine state as Townsville hosts a hot seven race card.

The Townsville meeting is the last chance for punters to get to the races in Queensland before Christmas day so a big crowd and a great day of racing is expected for what will be one of the main focuses of the thoroughbred community on Thursday alongside Sale.

The Become A TTC Member Today is the fourth race of the day and kicks off the quaddie at 4.05pm.

All odds this week were provided by Crownbet.com.au, which is the go-to destination for punters who take their quaddies seriously.

Race 4 – Become A TTC Member Today BM55 (1400m)

An earlier start to the quaddie than we are typically used to given it is a seven race card and we have narrowed the first leg down to three primary chances.

It is hard to dispute Carlson’s Felt form coming into race four. The eight-year-old has won at bench mark 60 level in the past over a similar distance and has been in the placings in four of its last five races.

Five-year-old mare Sapodilla has been around the mark in its last five races, all of which have been of a similar grade and distance. It has a 12 day break from the last race and should benefit from the small rest.

Zalsnaap has experience winning across the distance and brings quality form into the race. The five-year-old gelding has placed three times in the last four races and was unlucky not to win two weeks ago over the 1500m. Drops back in trip on Thursday and should be primed.

Race 5 – BMD Urban Handicap (1000m)

A smaller field of eight horses greets punters for the second leg of the quaddie over the sprint trip.

The field looks to have two strong elects that should be in the frame.

Eight-year-old Five O’clock looks to be one of the standouts here. The sprinter has eight wins this year over a similar grade and trip and is seeking a third straight win. The last time out it hammered the field at Mount Isa, yet gets to drop 1kg for Thursday.

Five O’clock taken a month off from racing and will come out fit and firing.

Wishful is the other runner we think will be around the mark. Two starts ago the mare lost a rider at Townsville, but prior to that had not finished outside the placings in five races. It returns to the track on the back of comfortable win in Innisfail and should be fighting out the finish.

Race 6 – TTC ½ Yearly Membership BM65 (1609m)

A benchmark 65 race is the third leg of the Townsville quaddie over the 1609m.

Six-year-old Our Single Doubt has finished in the placings across the last five races, including a last start win over the same class, trip and course. The gelding has had a two week break since that victory and looks well placed here.

Top weight Cracow has experience at Townsville and has won over a similar trip and class. The seven-year-old was a last start second over the same course, distance and grade back at the start of December and has no problems carrying the 59kg.

Bo Rossa has had some indifferent form over the last two months, but two placings across the mare’s last two starts will buoy the spirits of connections. The seven-year-old won over 1500m in a benchmark 65 back in early September and could be ready to win again after a 12 day break.

Race 7 – Merry Christmas From The TTC Handicap-Class 1 (1200m)

We drop back to the shorter trip for the final leg of the Townsville quaddie where the biggest field of the day (13 runners) rounds out the card.

Saturday Of May comes into the final race of the day in terrific form. The horse has been in the hands of three different trainers but Steven Royes seems to have unlocked the five-year-old’s potential.

The gelding has started as a $1.50 and $1.60 favourite across its last two starts for a win and a second. Drops almost 5kg from its last start and could get itself back in the winner’s circle.

Another horse that has benefited greatly from a change in trainer is Seriously Happy. The six-year-old finally got off the mark back in early December after changing to the Bill Hertherington stable. The gelding was seriously impressive in that three-length victory and we have no issues in the step up in class here.

Four-year-old Renegade Ruby looks like it will relish the step up in class here. Gets back out to the 1200m where the mare last won back in mid-November and will be fighting out the finish.
