2016 Run To The Rose final field, barrier draw and market movers

Run To The Rose

THE final field and barrier draw has been made for the $175,000 Group 2 Run To The Rose at Rosehill on Saturday with unbeaten star El Divino drawing the inside barrier.

Sportsbet.com.au has released its updated market which currently has last start winner Star Turn as the $3.80 favourite. The Hawkes-trained colt won the San Domenico Stakes over the likes of Tango Rain and Capitalist last start and warrants plenty of respect.

The three-year-old looks to have strengthened up since running sixth in the Golden Slipper and the increase up to 1200m will only help its chances.

Half-brother to Winx, El Divino, is unbeaten in two starts and has received an ideal draw. The Waterhouse/Bott-trained colt gets the inside barrier after dead-heating in the Kindergarten Stakes at Randwick last start and it’s certainly following in the footsteps of its big brother.

El Divino remains steady in the market at $6, but we’re expecting that price to drop later in the week.

Champion jockey James McDonald labeled Astern as his horse to watch this spring and bookmakers are respecting the last start winner at $7, but it’s stablemate Impending which has been the best-backed runner in the field and is looking to give Godolphin its second consecutive win in the race after Exosphere won in 2015.

The John O’Shea-trained colt won by 2.5 lengths on debut before being very unlucky in the Ken Russell Stakes behind Royal Tithe at Gold Coast. It ran as the $1.60 on that occasion so it clearly has ability and after opening at $4.60 for the Run To The Rose, it’s currently at $4.40.

The other best-backed runner is the Peter and Paul Snowden-trained Mediterranean which is $5 at Sportsbet after opening at $5.50. The Smart Missile colt didn’t have all favours behind Thronum last start and it looks a progressive three-year-old in the making.
