$137 outsider Snipselva stuns them at Narromine
It is not often you see a triple figure winner salute on the race track but that’s exactly what Dar Lunn-trained mare Snipselva delivered backers on Monday at Narromine.
Jumping as a $137 outsider at online bookmaker Sportsbet, the four-year-old overturned a shocking record of eight defeats for just one finish inside the first half of the field.
After spearing out to an early lead the rank outsider fought hard to hold the lead but looked to be wilting in the straight as race favourite Brunela loomed up and took the lead.
The mare was not to be denied however, as she found some extra energy in the reserve tanks and launched a late bid to regain the lead and eventually take out the race.
The drama didn’t end there for the daughter of Snippetson.
Anyone that backed the outsider had their money already in their accounts via our trusted online bookmakers that offer protest payouts, but the TAB punters had to sweat out a protest between second and first with an alleged interference taking place as the race entered the latter stages.
The protest was dismissed however and Snipselva claimed her maiden success.
Even the most eagle-eyed form analysts would have been left scratching their heads at the result given the mare has started at less than triple figures just three times in her nine race career, with a finish of sixth from 12 runners her best result to date.
As they say though, it doesn’t matter how you get there – it is only the result that counts.
